OUTLOOK
Danley is the county leader in career victories with 472 against 181 losses in his 25 seasons at Katella. In that time, the Knights have advanced to the playoffs 23 times. Of course, nowadays almost everybody makes the playoffs. But back in the days when making the playoffs meant something, Katella was king. It has been awhile since the Knights were among the best in the Southern Section. That doesn’t figure to change this season. With only one returning letterman and five seniors on the roster, experience seems to be the biggest hurdle Katella will face. Kevin Carlson averaged 21.3 points last season. But he’s not on the Knights’ roster. It’s his younger brother, Brian, who is the only returning starter. If Brian is half as talented as Kevin, the Knights could be in good shape, however. In addition to being the team’s leading scorer last season, Kevin set the county high jump record with a leap of 7 feet 1 at the State meet.
