Maxwell Family Hints at Charges: It gave its first acknowledgment that it fears that criminal prosecutions will follow the Serious Fraud Office’s investigations into the Maxwell empire. Kevin Maxwell’s counsel, George Carman, told the London High Court that he had advised Kevin Maxwell of his right under law “not to provide, in advance of any prospective criminal charge, his defense to any such charge.” To do so “would be premature, ill-advised and inappropriate at a time when he is under enormous pressure.” He said Maxwell was willing, however, to spend “every waking hour” helping to trace the millions missing from the pension funds of Mirror Group Newspapers, one of his late father’s companies.
