Joplin Heirs Lose Bid: The heirs of Janis Joplin have lost a bid to nail down exclusive rights to the “persona” of the rock singer who died of a heroin overdose in Hollywood in 1970. A federal judge in Seattle ruled in favor of the creators of a play about Joplin and refused to stop future productions of the work.
