Supervisors OK Building of Disney Concert Hall

Los Angeles County supervisors Tuesday approved construction of the $220-million Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles, paving the way for groundbreaking early next year.
The vote came nearly four years after Disney’s widow contributed $50 million for the 2,400-seat future home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. It is to be built on county-owned land across from the Music Center.
Supervisors approved a package of lease, architectural and financial documents, under which the county will sell $110 million in bonds to pay for construction of the underground garage. Disney family attorney Ronald Gother said that Disney family members have pledged another $17.5 million so that construction can begin.
