THE BEST: Esperanza tackle Travis Kirschke, left, and Mater Dei quarterback Billy Blanton, the Times Orange County lineman and back of the year winners, are getting used to the limelight (C1). Kirschke, the first junior since 1988 to gain the defensive honor, helped lead his team to 27 straight wins over two years. Blanton, a senior, may attend Notre Dame, USC or Washington State.
