CSUN’s Daniels, Cardenas Win Soccer Honors

Cal State Northridge junior forward Danny Daniels was named to the Far West region second-team All-American squad by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America.
Teammate Gus Cardenas, a senior midfielder, was a third-team selection. Daniels led Northridge in scoring with 13 goals and six assists. Cardenas, who missed six games because of injury, finished with four goals and two assists.
Lucrieta Haynes of L.A. Baptist High was named Southern Section 1-A Division co-player of the year and L.A. Baptist Coach Sue Newcomb was selected as 1-A coach of the year in a vote by girls’ volleyball coaches.
Haynes, a senior middle blocker who led the Knights to the 1-A championship, shared player-of-the year honors with Kathleen Bunce of Capistrano Valley Christian.
Senior middle blocker Sarah Rameson of L.A. Baptist also was a first-team 1-A selection.
There were 11 other area players named to All-Southern Section teams:
Other first-team selections were Jennifer Hamilton of Royal (5-A, senior, middle blocker), Melyssa Wilcox of Canyon (3-A, senior, setter) and Sami Sawyer (2-A, junior, setter-outside hitter) and Kortney Rogers (2-A, junior, middle blocker) of Nordhoff.
Second-team honors went to Kaili Kimura of Thousand Oaks (5-A, senior, outside hitter), Jennifer Cameron of Newbury Park (5-A, senior, middle blocker), Tracy Heflin of Agoura (5-A, junior, setter), Shannon Tuttle of Notre Dame (4-A, senior, setter), Louella Lovely of Bell-Jeff (4-A, senior, setter), Gina Sanchez of Canyon (3-A, junior, middle blocker) and Kristi Evans of Moorpark (2-A, senior, outside hitter).
