Economic Growth Revised Upward: The economy grew at a 1.8% annual rate during the July-September third quarter, the Commerce Department said, a slightly better performance than estimated two weeks ago. In its second and final measure of the quarter’s performance, the department said the economy grew more strongly than the 1.7% rate it estimated on Dec. 4 but was well below an initial estimate of 2.5%. The expansion in the nation’s gross domestic product followed a 1.4% rise in the second quarter. GDP measures goods and services produced by workers and capital in the United States.
