Help Wanted Index Flat: The Conference Board’s count of help wanted advertising in November was virtually unchanged from the previous month, the business research group said. The index in November was 89, slightly higher than October’s reading of 88, but well below the level of 108 in November, 1990. The unemployment rate was 6.8% in November, the same as October. The Conference Board compiles the index, which has a 1967 base of 100, by measuring help wanted advertising in 51 major newspapers across the country. The ads are considered extremely sensitive to changes in demand for labor. Job advertising rose in one-third of the cities included in the survey, fell in another third and was unchanged in about another third.
