In the Katella tournament semifinals:
Washington Redmond 65, Western 49--Todd Wyatt scored 19 points and J.D. Huleen added 17 as the Mustangs advanced to Monday’s final against the winner of the Alhambra-Norwalk game.
Western (7-3) trailed by as many as 23 points, but twice cut Redmond’s lead to 10 behind the shooting of Chris Jackson and Frank Floyd. Jackson, who led the Pioneers with 15 points, made a three-pointer with 6:33 to play to make the score 47-37.
But Western Coach Greg Hoffman drew two technical fouls while arguing a foul call. It resulted in six consecutive free throws and a basket for Redmond, which made it 55-37 with six minutes to play.
Western will play for third against Long Beach Millikan at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
