San Gabriel : Truck Parking Limits Set
Moving to unclog city streets, the City Council on Tuesday gave initial approval to new restrictions on commercial truck parking.
The proposed ordinance would bar three-ton or larger trucks from parking on residential streets and would limit parking to one hour on commercial routes. It would permit parking during deliveries and loading. A final vote on the measure is expected Jan. 21.
City officials said trucks often use busy roadways, such as Del Mar Boulevard, as a “parking lot” and frequently park on narrower residential streets, where commercial trucks are already banned from traveling but not from parking.
Public Works Director Dwight French said most of the city’s streets were laid before 1950 and cannot accommodate large trucks, which impede traffic and create hazards when parked.
