Pomona : Trash Center Firm Chosen

The Pomona City Council has selected CR & R Inc. of Stanton and its Pomona subsidiary, Duran Environmental Inc., as the proposed developers of a regional center where trash would be sorted to remove paper, glass, metals and other recyclable materials.
Under the resolution approved by the council this week, the city and the developers will have 90 days to negotiate an agreement spelling out the details, including the plant location. CR & R operates a trash-sorting facility in Stanton. Duran Environmental is a rubbish hauler in Pomona.
In a proposal submitted to the city last year, CR & R and Duran suggested a plant site at a truck terminal at Philadelphia and Reservoir streets. But David E. Fahrion, Duran vice president, said other sites in the city also will be considered.
Under the plan, trash from Pomona and other cities would be brought to the plant to be processed. After the recyclable materials were removed, the remaining trash would be hauled to a local dump or shipped by rail to a dump in a remote area.
