Arreola, Brown to Compete in Sunkist Indoor Meet

Darcy Arreola and Alice Brown, former track and field standouts at Cal State Northridge, have entered the Sunkist Invitational indoor meet at the Sports Arena on Feb. 15.
Arreola, who runs for Nike Coast, is entered in the women’s 1,500 meters. Brown, who competes for the Southern California Cheetahs, will compete in the women’s 50-meter dash.
Suzy Favor Hamilton of the Reebok track club and PattiSue Plumer of Nike International are the leading contenders in the women’s 1,500.
The pair finished first and second in the 1,500 in The Athletics Congress championships last June and Arreola placed third.
Brown, the 1984 Olympic silver medalist in the 100, will battle 1984 Olympic gold medalist Evelyn Ashford in the women’s 50.
The Amateur Athletic Foundation will sponsor a track and field coaching clinic at Birmingham High today and Sunday and again Feb. 1-2.
The all-day sessions will start at 8 a.m. today and next Saturday. The Sunday sessions will begin at 9 a.m.

The Simi Valley High baseball alumni game, featuring several professional players, will be held at the school’s baseball field Feb. 1 at 1 p.m.
Simi Valley products expected to participate include Chicago White Sox reliever Scott Radinsky and minor league players Scott Sharts and Tim Laker.
Players who graduated in even-numbered years will play those from odd-numbered years.
