UC Irvine 18, San Diego 4--After building a 9-3 lead, Irvine scored eight runs in the seventh inning to blow it open. Joe Furukawa was four for four, scoring three runs and driving in one, Steve Ott had two hits and two RBIs and Tim McDonnell had three hits and three RBIs for the visiting Anteaters (9-7). Vinnie Orlando hit a home run in the inning in his first collegiate at-bat.

In nonconference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 2-4, Cal State Northridge 1-2--Karin Knoop singled in K.C. Clark with the winning run in the opener and had two hits and drove in two runs in the nightcap as the fifth-ranked Titans (8-6) swept the visiting Matadors (14-13).
