OUTLOOK
Last year, Cal Lutheran had only 10 players on its roster. This year, Gullixson expects about the same number, but she isn’t sure because she’s only recently had the opportunity to see many of them on the practice field. “It’s tough to tell what your team is going to do when seven of your players just came out from basketball,” Gullixson said. “I think we’ll need a couple of weeks just to get everybody into the right spots.” Some positions are more set than others for the C-Hawks. Walker, who hit .417 last year, returns as Cal Lutheran’s top player and will be expected to pitch and play first and shortstop. “She’s really versatile, which is good because we’ll need her to do a lot of things,” Gullixson said. Walker pitched some last year, compiling a 3-1 record with 17 strikeouts. Eberhard should also contribute at pitcher and shortstop for the C-Hawks. Gullixson cited Cal Lutheran’s infield defense as a strength of the team, with Walker, Gusman, Rowe and catcher Bergener returning. The outfield is inexperienced for the most part, but Gullixson expects Parrott, Barrientos and Garcia to develop defensively.
