Glassell Park : Catering Truck Vendor Slain
- Share via
A catering truck operator who had been robbed in Glassell Park was fatally shot by the thief when he tried to telephone for help, authorities said.
Los Angeles Police Sgt. Ron Whitt said the vendor, Jesus Molinar, 51, of Mt. Washington, was robbed March 4 near Cypress Avenue and Cazador Street by a youth in his late teens armed with a rifle.
After the holdup, the robber walked away, apparently planning to rob another nearby catering truck, Whitt said. But when the gunman saw Molinar using an outdoor pay phone, he fired four shots, one of which struck the vendor in the upper torso. Molinar was pronounced dead on arrival at Glendale Memorial Hospital.
