Five City Council districts, three seats up for election
District 1 incumbent John Richards, a professor of organic chemistry at Caltech, is unopposed. District 4 incumbent Audrey Chamberlain, a retiree, is unopposed.
Last year, the council adopted an ordinance to protect native trees such as sequoia and oak. It requires a city permit to move or cut down such a tree and establishes guidelines for proper maintenance including pruning.
Challenger
* Mark Flewelling, 36
Occupation: Attorney
Remarks: “I feel that, even though we are a very small city, there is very little communication between the City Council and the residents.” Flewelling cited what he claimed was a lack of notification on the tree ordinance. “A lot of people found out after the (ordinance) had already passed.” Flewelling said he would like to begin a tree planting campaign. He is staying “pretty low key” in his campaign by mailing letters and talking to his neighbors.
Incumbent
* Audrey Hon
Occupation: Member of the board of directors, Pasadena Red Cross
Remarks: “We don’t have political issues” in Bradbury. “I would just like to see Bradbury stay a rural community.” Hon is also speaking to her neighbors and mailing letters for her reelection campaign.
