N’Cita Wins Decision Over Salud

Welcome N’Cita of South Africa retained his International Boxing Federation super-bantamweight title Saturday night in Treviolo, Italy, with a unanimous decision over San Diego’s Jesus Salud.

The champion won 116-112, 115-113 and 116-112 on the three judges’ cards to improve to 31-0 as a pro.

Salud, 28, won the World Boxing Assn. junior featherweight title in December of 1989, but was stripped of it five months later for failing to defend it within six months. He eventually worked his way back up through the IBF rankings and was rated second going into the N’Cita fight.

Salud (41-5), who is managed by San Diego’s Bob DePhilippis, landed some beautiful hooks and uppercuts but was unable to defend against the steady jabbing of N’Cita, who dominated the the in-fighting.

N’Cita, a left-hander, ended the bout with a swollen left eye.
