A man eating a snack was beaten to death early Tuesday morning by four robbers wielding a pipe or a tire iron, Los Angeles police reported.
Jose Corea, 37, of Highland Park was approached at about 1:30 a.m. as he was sitting on the curb of the 2800 block of N. Figueroa Street with food he had just bought from a catering truck, Sgt. Ron Whitt said. The men demanded money, then beat Corea severely with a pipe or a tire iron, Whitt said. Corea was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
