City Adjusts Track Schedule After Upheaval
- Share via
The City Section has postponed its six conference track and field championships until next week in the aftermath of the violence that erupted last week after the Rodney G. King beating trial.
The Northwest Valley and the Northern conference finals originally were scheduled for Wednesday at Birmingham High and Cal State Los Angeles, respectively. Those meets have been postponed until next Wednesday at the same sites.
The Valley Pac-8 meet, scheduled for today at Birmingham High, has been pushed back until next Thursday.
As a result of the postponements, the City Section quarterfinals, originally scheduled for May 15 at Birmingham, have been canceled. The City semifinals and championships still are scheduled for May 21 and May 28 at Birmingham.
Normally, the top five finishers in each event in the conference finals advance to the City quarterfinals, and the top 16 finishers in each event in that meet advance to the semifinals. The top eight finishers in the semifinals qualify for the City finals.
Because the City quarterfinals have been canceled, the top five finishers in each event in the conference finals will qualify for the semifinals.
