San Diego : Smoking Ban OKd by Council
Smoking in shared work areas will be banned in Vista, the City Council decided Tuesday.
The vote replaces an existing city law that allows smoking only if all employees agree to it. City Councilwoman Nancy Wade, who introduced Tuesday’s change, said the current law allows nonsmokers to be “coerced” into agreeing to let co-workers smoke.
Smoking will still be allowed in private offices sealed off by walls and doors from other employees.
The measure will return to the council May 26 for final approval and then take effect 30 days later.
