Metro BRIEFS : LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Holiday Traffic Deaths Down in ’92

Six people died in Los Angeles county and city traffic accidents this holiday weekend, compared to 11 last year, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A total of 473 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, down from 535 over Memorial Day weekend last year, CHP Officer Glen Dominguez said.
Dominguez credited the safety improvements to a designated driver advertising campaign and a new law allowing police to revoke the driver’s license of a drunk driver at the arrest site.
“Also, I think that the (illegal) .08 (blood) alcohol level helped--the fact that it is lower now,” he said.
