IDEA MAN? Certain high-tech and military-oriented equipment needs special licenses before being exported. Because of the recession and government deregulation, those carefully watched exports from the county were down from $2 billion in 1990 to under $1 billion in 1991. . . . But Michael E. Hoffman, above, the new west region federal export administrator based in Irvine, vows to help local firms increase exporting: “I want industry to know that we’ve got initiatives.”
