A burglary suspect was stabbed to death Thursday by the co-owner of a Thai-language video store on Hollywood Boulevard, police said.
The stabbing occurred about 3:30 a.m. at Hollywood Video on the 5600 block of Hollywood Boulevard, after two suspected gang members broke into the store with a screwdriver while the two owners were in a back room, said Lt. Brad Merritt of the Los Angeles Police Department. The owners, who were not identified, heard the suspects trying to pry open the cash register, Merritt said. One owner came out armed with a kitchen knife, and a scuffle ensued with one of the suspects, Merritt said.
Fearing for his life, the owner stabbed the suspect once in the chest, the detective said.
Police followed a trail of blood from the store to a back yard, where they found the body, Merritt said. The identity of the dead man was not released.
The other suspect was still at large.
