The Region : Child-Care Network Funded

Options, a nonprofit agency offering child-care, child development and counseling services, has been awarded $796,032 from the Federal Block Grant program for programs in the San Gabriel Valley.

Surround Care, which provides before- and after-school day care, will use $214,365 to add three new on-campus centers for children in kindergarten through sixth grade at Ramona Elementary School in Alhambra, Potrero Elementary School in El Monte and Northam Elementary School in La Puente.

The Family Child Care Home program will receive $148,690 to add Covina, West Covina and Rowland Heights to the program, which already operates in Alhambra, San Gabriel, South San Gabriel, Monterey Park and Rosemead. The system is a network of licensed providers who care for children in their homes.

The Alternative Payment program, which offers eligible low-income parents a choice of care, with care givers paid directly by Options, will receive $432,977.

The program will be available in Alhambra, San Gabriel, Temple City, El Monte, Rosemead, South El Monte, Azusa and Baldwin Park.
