Timothy J. Grimmond, a 25-year veteran of the El Segundo Police Department, has been appointed the new chief, effective Friday.
The announcement was made Thursday by acting City Manager Frank V. Meehan, who has also been serving as police chief. Meehan took over the manager’s job in addition to his police duties two months ago when the council fired Ronald Cano as city manager.
The 46-year-old Grimmond has served as a sergeant, a lieutenant and a captain in the department. He holds a master of science degree in management from Cal Poly Pomona and a master’s in criminology from Cal State Long Beach.
He and his wife, Tammy, have three children. Grimmond said his new salary has not yet been determined.
