THE DUMBING-DOWN OF ENTERTAINMENT
As one concerned about Hollywood’s profits-over-art emphasis, I thank Robert Altman for having the courage to make a film as anti-Hollywood as “The Player” (“ ‘My Fourth Comeback’: A Robert Altman Production,” by Hilary de Vries, April 26). Those my age, the 20s, usually get blamed for the dumbing-down of entertainment. I don’t accept that premise, nor will I accept the stupid product Hollywood usually tries to shove down my throat. I hope that Altman keeps fighting the executives and that others join him. It’s the only way to save American entertainment.
