* * 1/2 Billy Ray Cyrus, “Some Gave All,” Mercury. This debut country album zoomed to the top of Billboard’s pop chart, which may be as much a result of a clever promotional campaign for the cutesy “Achy Breaky Heart” single as of the modest charms of its singer. His strong pop showing isn’t that surprising--at times Cyrus recalls Springsteen and Mellencamp, at others popmeisters Billy Joel and Elton John. Though he doesn’t say anything new in the six songs he wrote, from the video it’s clear that on the dance floor at least, this Kentucky hunk can whup Garth, Clint, Alan et al.
