Why didn’t you commission artists from the South Los Angeles riot area? I know an artist who lives and works there, who experienced the riots firsthand and later helped clean up the debris. The Times missed an opportunity to produce art in process, instead offering a slicked-up visual presentation designed to fit the 10x12-inch magazine format.
