An unidentified man was killed Tuesday after he dove off a freeway overpass and was struck by several cars, clogging morning traffic on the Ventura Freeway for several hours, Burbank police said.
The man, believed to be in his late 20s, jumped from the Olive Avenue overpass into the eastbound lanes of the freeway about 6 a.m., Lt. Art Moody said. He was hit by as many as 10 cars and was dead when paramedics arrived minutes later.
“He ran across the street and dove over head first,” Moody said. “He wanted to kill himself. One witness said he never even touched the railing.”
Two eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed until about 8:30 a.m.
