World IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : China Trade Status Bill Clears Panel

The Senate Finance Committee sent to the full Senate a bill that would limit renewal of China’s favorable trade status next year if it did not meet conditions on human rights, trade and other issues. The bill, similar to a measure approved by the House last month, would impose higher U.S. duties on goods made by Chinese state-owned enterprises if China failed to meet the conditions.
