A boxing promoter on the prowl here is Englishman Mickey Duff, who came to see Adrian Dodson, a hard-hitting welterweight who was born in British Guyana, learned to fight in Brooklyn and was representing Britain until he was eliminated by Romania’s Francisc Vastag.
Rather than being depressed by Dodson’s loss, however, Duff was overjoyed.
“Now it will be much easier to sign him,” Duff said. “He wanted a 150,000-pound signing bonus. This guy Vastag saved me a lot of money.”
This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday and Baltimore Sun, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
