OUTLOOK
Fountain Valley, which had only 10 seniors on the team last year, should be the most improved team in the league. The Barons had an outstanding summer, defeating Mater Dei twice and finishing fifth in the University of San Diego Tournament among 40 teams. Fountain Valley allowed only 9.8 points per game last year and returns eight defensive starters, including all-league tackle Peters and a vastly improved Nart Ibrahim at linebacker. The big question mark is at quarterback where Fortner and Bertoni, whose brother, Ryan, was the starter last year, are battling. “Both will be given a chance to run the team in our opening two games and then we’ll make a decision,” Berg said. The Barons meet top 10 powers Dana Hills, Los Alamitos and Irvine in the preseason.
