Police have arrested a man who allegedly fired more than 30 gunshots inside his apartment Sunday night.
Arthur R. Spatz, 37, who lives in the 12000 block of Bayport Street, was arrested on charges of discharging a firearm in a reckless manner and at an inhabited building, after he allegedly fired the 30 rounds from two handguns and a shotgun, police said Monday.
There were no injuries and no reports that other apartments were hit by gunfire, but police evacuated an undisclosed number of residents from nearby dwellings.
No reason was given for what might have triggered the outburst.
Lt. Stu Finkelstein said Officer Chris Wasinger responded to the large Oakwood Apartment complex near Haster Street and Chapman Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m., when a neighbor reported hearing three gunshots.
While other officers were being deployed around the area, about 30 additional shots were heard, Finkelstein said.
The Garden Grove Police Department Special Weapons Team was called out, but before its arrival, police made telephone contact with Spatz, who surrendered without incident.
Inside Spatz’s apartment, officers found the three weapons, all of which had been fired, Finkelstein said.
