Readers Call Murray for Double Faults on Edberg and the Irish

I looked through last Monday’s Times sports section with a sigh of relief. The U.S. Open was over, and Jim Murray had the self-restraint and good sense to refrain from writing about tennis. But then Tuesday’s paper came, and, alas, Murray was at it again, full of sarcasm and off the mark, as usual, when it comes to tennis.

If you were objective about boring sports, there is nothing more boring than baseball.

You can have your baseliners, like Agassi or Chang. It is the serve-and-volleyers, like Edberg and Sampras, who play all-around, exciting tennis.

It is obvious that you don’t like tennis. So don’t watch it. It’s a free country. But above all, don’t write about it.
