The City Council has announced its intention to abandon portions of Pine, Parton and Garnsey streets to make room for a 70,700-square-foot expansion project at Santa Ana High School.
The council decided Monday to hold a public hearing on the proposed abandonment on Oct. 19.
The areas affected include: Pine Street, from 140 feet east of Flower Street to Parton Street; Garnsey Street, from Pine Street to 60 feet south of Pine Street, and Parton Street, from Pine to Myrtle streets.
Pine and Garnsey streets will end in cul-de-sacs under the plan. The high school is north of Myrtle Street, south of Walnut Street between Flower and Ross streets.
The proposed expansion project includes the addition of a 42,000-square-foot business, science and arts building, a 12,000-square-foot classroom building and additional space for parking, district officials said on Thursday.
The city Planning Commission previously approved the abandonment plan unanimously. The public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 19 in the council chambers at 20 Civic Center Plaza.
