The U.S. Olympic Committee’s membership committee voted to recommend suspension of federations of team handball and karate for possible violations of the USOC constitution and the Amateur Sports Act.
According to Steve Sobel, chairman of the committee, the recommendations are the first of many steps in the process to suspend either organization.
Sobel said the recommendation could be seen as the membership committee’s attempt to inspire the national governing bodies to bring their policies in line with USOC regulations.
