Pavel Bure, the NHL’s top rookie last season, scored four goals Monday night, including three during the second period, as the Vancouver Canucks routed the Winnipeg Jets, 8-1, at Vancouver.
Bure’s four goals tied a club record, as did his two short-handed goals, as the Canucks improved to 3-0-0.
The three-goal period also tied a club record shared by three players. Bure also assisted on a goal by Greg Adams during the period.
Boston 6, Ottawa 3--Vladimir Ruzicka scored three goals and the Bruins held Ottawa to only 21 shots at Boston. Bruin fans showered the ice with caps after Ruzicka completed his third NHL hat trick midway through the third period by tipping in Gord Roberts’ shot.
New York Rangers 6, Hartford 2--Tony Amonte scored twice as the New York Rangers won their penalty-filled home opener by scoring four goals during the second period.
New Jersey 4, Washington 2--Kevin Todd scored twice during a three-goal opening period at East Rutherford, N.J., as the Devils handed the Capitals their third consecutive defeat.
