Kenny Bernstein, the only driver to surpass 300 m.p.h. in drag racing, ran the fastest quarter-mile in history at the National Hot Rod Assn. Chief Auto Parts Nationals at Ennis, Tex. Bernstein covered the distance in 4.792 seconds at 295.27 m.p.h. during qualifying for the final eliminations.

He will lead the quickest 16-car Top Fuel field in history. Fifteen drivers qualified quicker than five seconds.
