Top-seeded Pete Sampras advanced to the semifinals of the Lyon Open in France. Sampras, the defending champion, defeated Germany’s Markus Zoecke, 6-4, 6-3, and will play third-seeded MaliVai Washington, who beat Karol Novacek of Czechoslovakia, 6-3, 6-1.
