Canyon 33, Burroughs 3--Senior wide receiver Kirk Sweetnam, playing in his first game of the season, caught six passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns to lead Canyon at home.
Sweetnam, who sustained a fractured right foot in April, grabbed a 35-yard touchdown pass from Sean Connelly on Canyon’s first play of the game.
After a pair of one-yard scoring runs by teammate Ed Williams, Sweetnam caught a 32-yard scoring pass late in the second quarter to give Canyon (6-1, 2-0) a 26-0 lead.
Williams ran for 141 yards in 20 carries and scored his third touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 47-yard run.
Burroughs (0-7, 0-1) managed just 135 yards and scored its only points on a 37-yard field goal by Anthony Perico.
