SAN DIEGO : Friend’s Testimony Dents Bray’s Claims

A witness in the trial involving participants in last year’s San Diego City Hall sex scandal testified Wednesday that there was love in the relationship between former city planner Susan Bray and her boss, former planning department director Robert Spaulding.
The testimony in San Diego federal court appears to undermine some of Bray’s claims supporting her lawsuit which seeks million of dollars from the city in the wake of last year’s scandal.
Carolyn Harshman, who was a training facilitator in the planning department at the time of the scandal, said that Bray had some love for Spaulding, whom she has accused in her lawsuit of using his position as department director to obtain sex.
Harshman was described in court as one of Bray’s best friends.
Bray kept Spaulding’s favorite beer in her refrigerator and promised at one point to “always be there for you,” Harshman testified.
Harshman, who testified about finding Bray in the fetal position on the floor of her apartment soon after the sex scandal was made public, said that Bray would sometimes be “overly dramatic.”
Bray is expected to testify about her relationship with Spaulding today.
