Katella Adds One Final Defeat to Loara’s Season

Five Katella running backs combined for 313 yards rushing as the Knights beat Loara, 29-9, in an Empire League game Friday night at Glover Stadium.

The Knights (5-5, 2-3) were led by Alex Alvarez’s 86 yards in nine carries. David Rojo had 14 carries for 74 yards. Jaret Wright, Katella’s quarterback, ran for 71 yards in nine carries. Eric Gardiner had 50 yards in five carries and scored two touchdowns. Mark Larsen finished with 32 yards in 13 carries.

Loara (0-10, 0-5) was paced by Denison Dawson’s 97 yards in 14 carries.

Katella scored first on a one-yard run by Wright and Juan Viramontes ran for the two-point conversion.

Loara cut the lead to 8-3 on Phil Mulligan’s 36-yard field goal.

But with 43 seconds left in the first half, Gardiner scored from one yard out and the Knights took a 15-3 lead.

Larsen scored from the one midway through the third quarter, and then Gardiner increased Katella’s lead to 29-3 when he scored on a four-yard run early in the fourth quarter.
