Chevron Sells Ortho Unit to Monsanto: Chevron Corp. said it has agreed to sell its Ortho lawn and garden products unit to Monsanto Co. for $400 million. By acquiring Ortho, Monsanto expands its garden products line, which already includes Roundup and Lasso brand herbicides. Ortho, based in San Ramon, Calif., makes about 300 lawn and garden products, such as insecticides, weed killers and plant foods. It employs about 580 workers and had annual sales of about $250 million. San Francisco-based Chevron said it expects to record a significant gain from the sale.
