Final figures released Monday confirmed that Walt Disney’s “Aladdin” has surpassed the studio’s previous all-time box-office champ, “Beauty and the Beast.” After 11 weeks, the Arabian Nights fable has sold $147.9 million in tickets. After 11 weeks, “Beauty” had grossed $100 million and went on to reach $145.8 million.
The romantic comedy “Used People” opened in a larger run after five weeks of limited run and showed strong signs with $4.4 million. But there was a sharp 60% fall-off for Madonna’s “Body of Evidence” after only two weeks. Meanwhile, “The Crying Game” continued big--$1.4 million on only 192 screens.
