Long Beach : Council Delays Changes in Queen Mary Lease
- Share via
The Long Beach City Council on Tuesday postponed making changes to a lease agreement to reopen the Queen Mary. The council on Dec. 22 awarded the lease to operate the tourist attraction to Joseph F. Prevratil. But Prevratil has since decided to change financial backers, which must be approved by the City Council.
The new financial backer is a nonprofit foundation supported by Robert Gumbiner, chairman of the board of FHP Health Care and a Long Beach philanthropist. The final details of the lease are expected to be worked out in the next couple of weeks, and Prevratil plans to reopen the ship next month.
