SUPER BOWL XXVII : The Spotlight : ON THE RIGHT TRACK

In visions of the New York Jets’ upset victory in Super Bowl III, longshots finished 1-2-3 in the Joe Namath Handicap at Gulfstream Park in Florida, resulting in a record $96,751.80 trifecta payoff for $1. One ticket bought at an intertrack wagering site in Palm Beach landed the trifecta, which Gulfstream officials said doubled the park’s previous record of $50,545.60 set on March 7, 1983.
Two members of the Dallas Cowboys came up winners Sunday even before the game started. Harry N Jerry, a horse owned by the Ridgemont Farms of Cowboy defensive tackle Tony Casillas and running back Daryl Johnston, scored a come-from-behind victory over odds-on favorite Darrell Darrell in the 89’er Handicap at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.
