Using ‘Christian’ as a Pejorative
Once again, The Times bandies about the term Christian right to stigmatize a candidate--state Senate hopeful Rob Hurtt--and marginalize him to the fanatic fringe (“Hurtt Gets Closer Scrutiny in 32nd Senate Seat Race,” Jan. 25).
The Times uses the term Christian as a pejorative that would be seen as downright bigoted if any other ethnic or religious group were so stereotyped.
On further examination, the article does fairly describe Hurtt’s priorities--limited taxes, educational choice and workers’ compensation reform. Hardly radical stuff!
