Cal State Fee Increase

Your article “Cal State Hikes Fees for 2nd Diplomas” (Jan. 28) struck a nerve. As a master’s degree candidate at Cal State Northridge I am alarmed by the Cal State trustees’ latest turn. As if times are not tough enough with their general fee hike of 40%, they are now targeting specific groups for a quadruple fee hike. This new move does not affect me--yet. I am afraid I’ll be next.

Perhaps they will follow the community college lead and raise fees for those students who already have bachelor’s degrees by 833%! That figure doesn’t even account for Gov. Pete Wilson’s proposed hike to take that total up to 1,750%! So much for an educated populace--does Wilson really think that by pricing people out of school they will become ignorant enough to vote for him?
