GARDEN GROVE — Two youths were arrested Sunday in connection with the drive-by shooting of a 15-year-old boy who died after he was shot in the chest while riding in the back of a pickup truck.
The truck was traveling east on Westminster Avenue at Lake Street about 10:30 p.m. Saturday when a vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside fired a handgun, Sgt. Paul McInerny said.
The boy, from Santa Ana, was declared dead on arrival at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center. His name was not released by police.
McInerny said the shooting appears to be gang-related.
Garden Grove detectives on Sunday took into custody four young men, ranging in age from 16 to 18. But they released two and booked a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old into Orange County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder. Their names were not disclosed because of their ages.
