Fritz Henle, 83, artistic photographer known for his classically composed black and white images. Born in Dortmund, Germany, Henle studied photography in Munich before moving to the United States in 1936. Early in his career, he worked for Life, Mademoiselle, Holiday and Harper’s Bazaar magazines. He moved to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1948 and lived and worked there until his death. His work included 20 travel books on the Caribbean, China, Europe, Japan, Hawaii and Mexico. On Jan. 31 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, of a heart attack.
